Chapter 2
Who: Liam and Shion
What: Liam puts his money where his mouth is and gets counselling.
Where: Starting out in the locker room, later location to be determined
When: After the storm
Warnings/Notes: Just gonna cover all my bases for the upcoming introspection. Pre-warnings for [DEEP BREATH] bad language and mentions of torture, cannibalism, genocide, human experimentation, child death, murder and casual suicidal depression.
[Liam Ferohn-Gau was not in the business of doing things he didn't want to do, and Liam really didn't want to do this.
The fugitive had survived twenty years of being pursued to the corners of the known universe by keeping his goddamn mouth shut and never staying in the same place for more than a few days. His stay at Rookshire was fundamentally at odds with how he had lived almost half of his life - for one, he was stuck here with the same people and no hope of leaving, and for another, he was about to break the cardinal rule of not boasting of his crimes to a person who could, conceivably, have him killed in an instant if he changed his mind about keeping things confidential.
Not that Liam suspected Shion would have him put down, but it wasn't, strictly speaking, impossible. The massive leap of faith Liam was taking to trust Shion with his past could not be overstated: before he'd arrived here, the thought of going through counselling with anyone other than Sarah was unthinkable. And yet, if he wanted to set a good example for the rest of the team, if he wanted to get rid of the stranglehold his depression had over his life, he needed to go through with this. He needed to remember what it was like to live one's life without the call of the void as background noise.
Making a point of prancing past Asch - hoping he'll witness his request before they absconded to a place they couldn't be overheard - Liam strolls up to Shion in the locker room as casually as he can manage, winning smile on his face.
His mind screaming at him to stop all the while, to the tune of: Fuck! Fuck this! Fuck ever agreeing to do this, and most of all, fuck Asch for making him feel like he needed to prove a point! The frigid, protective haze that had dulled his emotions for twenty years was about to be lifted from his mind like a blanket, and Liam sure as shit was not looking forward to feeling bone-crushing remorse again. Assuming his worst fears weren't true, at least, and he hadn't somehow turned out to be a psychopath this entire time.]
Hey, Shion! Do you have some time to talk...?
[He wondered if he would know at once what he wanted to talk about, or if he'd have forgotten by now and Liam would have one last chance to take the coward's way out.]
